Getting There

JAC is inside the park

Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) is the only commercial airport inside a U.S. national park — you'll see the Tetons from the runway. The drive to Heartwood Lodge in Teton Village is about 14 miles (~20–25 min). You'll want rental vehicles for this trip: the lodge has garage parking for 2 cars and driveway space for 4 more (no street parking per HOA).

Rental car note With 18 guests you'll need multiple vehicles. Reserve well ahead — Jackson Hole car rental inventory is extremely tight in peak summer and prices surge. Consider booking through Costco Travel, Turo, or directly with National/Enterprise at JAC. Two large SUVs + one midsize could work.
Parking rules — HOA enforced Garage: 2 cars. Driveway: up to 4 cars. No street parking, no RVs, no sprinter vans, no trailers, no motorcycles. Fines are charged to guests.

Weather & What to Pack

Layer up

Late June / early July is prime Teton summer — long sunny days, wildflowers everywhere, and afternoon thunderstorms that roll in fast and clear out within an hour. Mornings can be genuinely cold (mid-30s°F), afternoons warm (upper 70s–low 80s°F), and evenings cool off quickly after sunset around 9 PM.

EveryoneLayers: morning fleece + afternoon t-shirt. Rain jacket (not optional). Sunscreen SPF 50+. Sunglasses. Water bottles. Comfortable walking shoes.
Activity daysClosed-toe shoes (required for horseback, UTV, rafting). Long pants for horseback ride. Quick-dry clothes for rafting. Hat for sun.
EveningsLight jacket or hoodie — rooftop dinners and the rodeo get chilly. Layers for the covered wagon ride up Cache Creek Canyon.
KidsSun hats, warm layers for mornings, snacks for car rides. Bear spray is for adults only (available at Moose Junction or Jackson).

Teton Village & Surroundings

Heartwood Lodge sits atop Granite Ridge in Teton Village, which is a self-contained base at the foot of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The village has restaurants, shops, and the aerial tram (runs in summer — ride it for incredible views). The town of Jackson is about 12 miles south (~20 min). Grand Teton National Park's main corridor runs right past you.

Other Activities — Not on the Epicurate Booking

Book on your own

Great Jackson Hole experiences that aren't part of the confirmed Epicurate package. UTV and Bar T 5 were originally considered for this trip — the rest are general suggestions worth adding for any open day. All have direct booking links. Aurora at Snow King is now confirmed for Friday 7/3 at 5 PM — see the Itinerary tab.

Originally considered for this trip
UTV Off-Road Tour — Gros Ventre
4-hour guided UTV tour through the Gros Ventre Range. Backcountry trails, dusty & bumpy. Good fit for an open day (Wed 7/1 morning was the original target). Closed-toe shoes, layers, sunglasses required. ~$2,290 for 10 adults at the originally quoted rate.
Bar T 5 Covered Wagon Cookout & Western Show
Horse-drawn covered wagon ride up Cache Creek Canyon, Dutch-oven cookout, live cowboy music show. ~3 hours total. Family-friendly — kids love it. Held nightly in summer. ~$120 adult / ~$70 child. Great alternative dinner-experience night.
Other ideas for open days

String Lake — Swim & Paddle
Shallow, warmer water — one of the only swimmable spots in Grand Teton. Kayak/paddleboard rentals at Colter Bay or rent in Jackson. Great for kids. Family-perfect afternoon.
Mill Iron Ranch — Horseback Alternative

Schwabacher Landing — Sunrise Photos
Iconic Teton-reflection viewpoint. Easy flat walk along the Snake River. Best at sunrise (5:42 AM!) or golden hour. No booking required — just drive.
